Lecture of dr. Jernej Barbič: Mathematics in movies, medicine and aviation

Mathematics is universally applicable science and whoever masters it has advantage before others. The lecturer will present the use of Mathematics in movies, medicine and aviation, with the emphasis on his own research in USA. He will also outline his professional journey in the USA from postgraduate student to professor of computer sciences. He will also give some time to comparing lives of young people in USA and Slovenia.

Mathematics in movies, medicine and aviation

Dr. Jernej Barbič after getting a degree at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (University of Ljubljana) continued his studies at Carnegie Mellon University in USA. He was chosen for professor of Computer sciences University of South California (Los Angeles, USA). He deals with areas of interactive simulation, numeric Mathematics, computerg graphics, optimization and physical modeling. The reputable American magazine MIT Technology Review has classified the Slovenian scientist among 35 most successful inovators, younger than 35 years, which is one of the most appreciated American awards. Dr. Barbič received it for achievements in computer graphics that have use value in movie industry.
